Plan your new season

September 15, 2016

This has always resonated with me. And September is one of those times of year when we are able to begin new challenges.  It's a time for new starts, new beginnings, and new commitments. The schools and universities are back, summer is behind us (though as I type this the sun is continuing to shine and the temperatures are still high) and we begin to think ahead to a new season.
Time to set goals, plan how you are going to achieve it. Break it down into bite sized chunks that are evidence of y...

challenge

July 22, 2016
The Society for All Artists were challenged to create an exhibition with the most original artworks under one roof - and achieved it with the help of its members. Each artist had to produce an artwork that was 3.5" x 2.5" in whatever medium they chose.   The Ryde Art Collective's 16 members decided that individual pictures would not be challenge enough and decided to take the map of the Isle of Wight and divide it into sections. There were 42 sections in all, and each artist completed several ...

Summer

July 4, 2016
So summer is slow arriving this year. 4th July and still the weather is playing games with us. Sun shines, rain pours, wind blows, and yet the strawberries are ripening, the blackcurrants are turning deep purple, and the loganberries are riper than ripe. Time for a reframe.
If the sun isn't shining, and the weather isn't doing what we want, we have much to be thankful for. Today I am focusing on remembering the positives.
What three positive things can you think of that you are grateful for? De...

crossroads

May 19, 2016
Where are you going? Do you know?  Some people are absolutely clear about their destination. Perhaps it goes something like this:
"I'm going to qualify as an accountant, work for a large organisation and gain experience, and then set up my own firm before I am 40. I'll retire when I am 50 and live abroad."
On the other hand, there are people whose story looks a bit like this:
"I started training as a nurse but found out I hated the sight of blood, so I worked in retail until I had my children. S...

What kind of person are you?

April 28, 2016
Are you someone defined by your past? Do you have a story? Does it influence how you live your life today? It is all too easy to take an event or series of events that have impacted on your life and allow them to shape and colour your whole life.  Perhaps you had a traumatic event in your childhood, lost a parent in early life, or suffered a catastrophic accident.  Sometimes that then colours everything we are - all that we do - every element of our being is shaped by that.

One way to look at ...

Reflections

April 12, 2016
Yesterday I was at the funeral of a wonderful lady who had lived all her life with Spina Bifida - a neural tube defect that impacts on mobility, continence and more. A lot of people use wheelchairs, but this was one of life's fighters. Early in her life, she had to have one leg amputated, but she was determined, and used a prosthetic leg, and crutches, and a mobility scooter for longer distances. Then problems with her kidneys led to regular dialysis. Still she kept going until finally her bo...

In or Out?

February 21, 2016
This cow looks a bit like I feel about the upcoming referendum on the EU. Should we be in or out?  Confused? We should be!
On the one hand, we are told we must stay in for all kinds of economic reasons.  On the other hand, the GO! campaign tells us we should leave to regain our sovereignty, autonomy and control of our borders.
I'm blowing hot and cold, just like the cow in the picture.
Still, we have a while to wait before we have to make our decisions. No doubt in the meantime we will be bom...

where are you going?

February 2, 2016

This time last year it was snowing. This year, not even a frost worth a mention.  Just wind, rain and more of the same.  But it will change, we will have better weather, and the sun will shine. We will be able to take off the winter clothes, and enjoy warm sun, walking the beach, and long, hot days.
Well, that is where I am looking ahead to, anyway!
Do we have a choice? Is there any influence we can bring to bear on the way our lives work out?  I think we do make the lives we have.  We can choo...
