I painted this picture when I saw Sue Dicken's version in the SAA calender for 2014.  It was totally outside my normal style of painting, and I wondered how it would turn out - her picture was wacky and amusing, and used colours that you wouldn't normally associate with a giraffe. It was great fun - liberating and exhilarating and I think I captured her way of painting.
It is easy to stick with what we know, doing what we have always done and getting predictable results.  One of my 2014 resolutions is to be braver, to try new things and experience a different way of working.
If we always do what we have always done, we will always get what we have always got.  It's true!
Try something different, dip your toe in the water - it doesn't have to be a huge, life changing event, but begin it now!
